Breeder's Hill Criterium

DES MOINES, IA - Chad Bishop, Josh Wandrey, Kevin Severs, and Louis DeWild competed in the 2012 Breeder's Hill Criterium presented by Zealous Racing. This event was located on the Iowa State Fairgrounds and featured a very steep hill each lap. Thirty five category 1,2,3 racer's from Iowa, Nebraska, Wisconsin, and Minnesota lined up to race 60 minutes for 10 places. Josh Wandrey extended his impressive road racing debut season with a 4th place finish. Kevin Severs made the money list as well, finishing in the 9th spot. - RESULTS -



DeWild and Wandrey Podium in Des Moines

DES MOINES, IA- Louis DeWild finished second and Josh Wandrey finished third at the Waterworks Park Criterium in Des Moines. The event was hosted by Zealous Racing and featured a stacked field of Category 1,2,3 riders.

Kevin Severs rode in a 2 man break for several laps letting his teamates sit in and cool their jets. He was ultimately caught with only 1 lap to go, setting up a "near" perfect finish.


Matt Zimmer Wins at Old Capitol Criterium

IOWA CITY, IA - Matt Zimmer officially claimed his USAC cycling upgrade after winning the Category 3 Old Cap Criterium on Sunday. Teammate Josh Wandrey made the podium as well, finishing third. Louis DeWild and Josh Wandrey are also scheduled to upgrade to the Cat 1,2 squad. These new editions will make a strong team just that much stronger; insuring solid representation at team calendar events.

Team Success at the Iowa City Road Race

IOWA CITY, IA - Lou Waugaman finished off a well-played team effort on Saturday at the 2012 Pro/1/2 Iowa City Road Race. The team raced tactfully to set-up an American Equity lead-out that set Lou up for the sprint. Paul Deninger and Lou Waugaman also posted outstanding times in the Time Trial, finishing third and fourth respectively.

Lou Waugaman sprinted to an impressive third place finish.


Josh Wandrey won the Cat 3 event, proving that he has great form, a solid finish, and plenty of racing skill.

Squaw Creek Criterium

CEDAR RAPIDS, IA- The American Equity team showed up in full force for the 2012 Cat 1,2,3 Squaw Creek Criterium near Cedar Rapids, Iowa. There were 10 VeloSport Iowa club members in the event. Louis DeWild got in the winning three-man break and finished 2nd overall. Josh Wandrey rounded out the top 5 for the team.

Earlier that day, Paul Deninger won the Master's race, and Nicole Fiala and Deb Wood won the Women's Cat 4 event.

Hawkeye Criterium

IOWA CITY, IA - Lou Waugaman, Kevin Severs, and Joshua Wandrey competed in the Hawkeye Horseshoe Criterium on Sunday, April 22nd. The trio lined up against 17 other Cat 1,2,3's and enjoyed a successful team effort that included Lou Waugaman's second place finish.

Tour of Hermann

HERMANN, MO- Chad Bishop and Paul Deninger participated in the 2012 edition of the Tour Of Hermann. The tour was a 3-event stage race that included a 14 mile TT, grueling Criterium, and a very hilly 90 mile Road Race.

Both Deninger and Bishop posted respectable times in the opening stage highlighted by an 11th place finish by Deninger.

Unfortunately, Bishop got caught up behind a crash during the criterium. His injuries were minor, but he was unable to finish the stage.

The road race gave the pair a chance to test their legs on some of the most hilly roads in the country; not to mention some of the most talented riders in the midwest. Deninger got into a break late in the stage, but ultimately settled for a very hard-fought 15th place finish.

American Equity Fields a Squad for Hillsboro

Paul Deninger, Lou Waugaman, and Chad Bishop participated in the 2012 edition of the legendary Hillsboro Roubaix Spring Classic. Touted for its similarities to the infamous "Paris Roubaix", this year's edition didn't dissapoint. The race was rainy, windy, and infused with lots of crashes and flat tires. Paul Deninger was a major factor in the event, nearly holding off the field the in the last miles of the race.

March Race Updates

LINCOLN, NE - Big Congrats to American Equity Eilte Teammate Kevin Severs for single-handedly taking WINS this weekend on both Saturday's Road Race and Sunday's Criterium in the Collegiate Division at Tour de Husker in Nebraska against stacked fields. These two impressive wins, coupled with wins at several indoor rollers races earlier this spring indicate that Kevin is poised to deliver 'something special' this season.

TIFFIN, IA - Several members of the American Equity racing team competed in the Kent Park Spring Classic on Sunday, March 25th. Paul Deninger and Chad Bishop represented the Elite Squad, finishing in the middle of the field sprint (RESULTS).


American Equity Team Training in Moline

Several riders on the 2012 American Equity Racing Team take advantage of the weekly training ride that occurs every Wednesday in Moline, Illinois. Velosport Iowa is comprised mainly of members from the Quad Cities area, so a large number of club and racing team members frequent this ride. Lou Waugaman and TJ Tollakson win in Tucson

TUCSON, AZ - Pro-Triathlete and American Equity Racing team member, TJ Tollakson tied for first overall in the 2012 Category 2 Tucson Bike Classic Stage Race. He won the initial time trial and held onto the yellow leader's jersey throughout the competition. He ultimately had to concede the general classification, based on a stage 3 time bonus that gave another rider the exact same overall time.

Lou Waugaman won the stage 3 circuit race of the Master's Division. Lou executed a perfect race, including a dominating field sprint for the victory. He earned two time bonuses during the race, resulting in an impressive 5th place finish within the general classification. (Full Results)

Bishop and Severs Medal in USAC/IBRA State Championship Event

AMES, IA- Chad Bishop and Kevin Severs earned the Gold and Silver Medals in the 2012 Iowa State Championship Roller Race Series. The three best times throughout the indoor season were averaged to establish the final placings.

Kevin Severs also represented the American Equity Racing Team on Saturday during an event called CIRREM. This 100k competition was well attended with around 100 cyclists who braved the cold and icy conditions to test their winter fitness and personal resolve. Kevin finished 4th overall.



Chad Bishop's time of 4:59.8 is his personal best, and establishes the currrent high mark for the 2012 indoor season.

Bishop Sets PR in Burlington Indoor TT

Burlington, IA- Chad Bishop enjoyed his third Roller Race victory this year at the Bickel's Roller Race on Saturday. In addition to winning the event, Chad was able to join the "Sub-5 Club" by accomplishing a time under 5 minutes, during this 2 mile competition.




Matt raced in several Cat 1,2,3 and collegiate events over the course of the weekend. He won the 'B' race as well as the collegiate team time trial.

Zimmer Starts 2012 Season With a Win in Florida

Gainesville, FL- Matt Zimmer recently participated in the UF Swamp Classic Race Series, which occured in Gainesville, Florida. He is taking advantage of his proximity to warmer climates to get a head start on the Iowa Racing Scene.




Waugaman Voted in as IBRA President

DES MOINES, IA - American Equity teammate and Velosport Iowa Club president, Lou Waugaman was recently elected to serve as president of the Iowa Bike Racing Assocation for the 2012 racing season. Lou has already demostrated his comittment to the sport and the IBRA by initiating the new jersey award system for state championship events. He also coordinated the implemention of the IBRA's new marketing agenda, which includes their new logo.


Severs Wins in Des Moines

DES MOINES, IA - Kevin Severs won the Bike Summit Roller Race in Des Moines with an outstanding time of 5:05.4. This event tests rider's ability to perform beyond their functional power threshold over a simulated 2 mile distance.

Kevin's pre-season training preparations are producing noteworthy fitness gains that the team will hope to leverage in upcoming events. The American Equity racing team won the first three Indoor TT events that they entered.

2012 AE Team Issue Trek Madone SSL

Several riders on the 2012 American Equity Racing Team will be taking advantage of the team's partnership with Trek to acquire new Trek Madone 6.9 bikes for the upcoming season. Pictured below is one of the bikes on order. This sweet rig features the new Bontrager D3 Aeolus 5 wheels and Trek's top of the line Madone 6 Series SSL frameset.





Bishop Wins the First Two Pre-Season Training Events

MUSCATINE, IA - Chad Bishop participated in the Harper's Cycling Roller Race on Sunday, January 14th. He completed the 2 mile indoor roller time trial in 5:04.5. In addition to having the fastest time of the day, Chad was awarded the 1st place prize in the Cat 1,2,3 division. His fastest three races will be averaged to give him a result in the 2012 Iowa State Roller Race Championship Series. Bishop secured an IBRA Gold Medal for American Equity in 2011.

CEDAR RAPIDS, IA - Chad Bishop won the Rolling the Rapids Indoor Time Trial on January 7th. His time of 5:14.1 earned him a first place in the Cat 1,2,3 division as well as fastest time of the event.


Kevin Severs Participates in Cyclocross National Championships

On the final day of USA Cycling's Cyclocross National Championships, several Iowa riders took to the field in the Men's Collegiate D1 race. This included American Equity's newest team member, Kevin Severs.

Kevin finished 34th in a very competitive collegiate field of participants from all over the country.
